What FSC regulation means for your money

“Regulated” is a word every broker uses and few explain. Concretely, holding an Investment Dealer licence from the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius means the company is subject to capital requirements, reporting obligations and inspection, and that its licence can be suspended or withdrawn. It is a standing condition, not a certificate collected once.

Client money is held separately from the company’s own. Your funds sit in segregated accounts at third-party banks, not in the account the business pays its rent from. The point of segregation is what happens in the worst case: client money is not the company’s to use, and does not become available to its creditors.

There is a complaints route that does not end with us. We are required to keep a complaints register and to answer within a defined period. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can take it to the Office of Ombudsperson for Financial Services, and the FSC also accepts complaints about its licensees. Our complaints policy is among the legal documents on this site — not behind a request.

We do not provide services to residents of certain countries. Not a commercial choice: the list is set by sanctions and by where we are not licensed to operate. It is stated in the footer of every page rather than discovered at the end of an application.

Verify us. The Financial Services Commission of Mauritius publishes a online public register. Search for “Ultimo Securities International Ltd” and check licence GB24203027, and cross-check our LEI record. Doing this before funding an account with any broker, us included, is five minutes well spent.

Not to be confused with. Ultimo Securities International Ltd. is not affiliated with any other company trading under a similar name. If a website, an account manager or a review is about us, it will carry our licence number, GB24203027, and our LEI. If it does not, it is not about us.

How the platform is put together

We did not build a trading platform of our own, and we would be wary of a broker our size that claimed to have. You trade on MetaTrader 5 — the platform most of the industry runs on, which means the charting, the order types, the expert advisors and the mobile app all behave the way you already expect, and your experience transfers if you ever leave us.

Execution sits at Equinix LD4 in Slough, the London data centre where a large share of the world’s foreign exchange actually changes hands. Being in the same building as the liquidity is the unglamorous reason orders fill quickly; it is a matter of physical distance, not of marketing.

Pricing is aggregated from institutional liquidity providers rather than quoted by us out of thin air. Identity verification runs through an independent provider. Payments are handled by regulated payment institutions. None of these are things we do ourselves, and each is a company you can look up.

How we make money

Worth asking of any broker, and worth being suspicious when the answer is vague. We earn from the spread — the difference between the buy and sell price — and, on some instruments, an overnight financing charge for positions held past the daily rollover. Deposits and withdrawals are free; we do not charge account fees, inactivity fees or platform fees.

That model has an obvious implication and we would rather state it than have you work it out: we do better when you trade more. It is why our material tries to make you a more careful trader rather than a busier one, why the risk disclosure is one of the three documents we tell you to read first, and why the guides on this site spend more words on stop losses and position sizing than on opportunity.

Introducing partners are paid a commission for clients they refer. If you came through one, that arrangement exists and is disclosed in the conflicts of interest policy. It does not change your spread.

Who we are not for

Trading on margin is not suitable for everyone and we would rather say so on this page than at the bottom of a page in small type. If the money you would deposit is money you need, this is the wrong product. If you are looking for guaranteed returns, managed accounts or someone to trade on your behalf, we do not offer any of those and should be treated with suspicion by you if we did.

We do not accept residents of the United States, Syria, North Korea, Iran, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Cuba, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan or Venezuela. That list comes from sanctions and from where we are not licensed, not from preference, and it is in the footer of every page rather than at the end of an application form.

Our onboarding asks about your experience, your income and the source of the funds you intend to trade with. Those questions are a regulatory requirement and they are also a real assessment — an application can be declined on the answers.

What we expect you to hold us to

Values are cheap to write. These are the ones with a mechanism behind them, so you can tell whether we are keeping to them rather than taking our word for it.

Your money is separate from ours

Client funds are held in segregated accounts at third-party banks. It is not an accounting convention: the point of segregation is that client money is not the company’s to use and does not become available to its creditors.

The price you see is the price you get

Pricing comes from aggregated institutional liquidity, not from a dealing desk deciding what to show you. Our best execution policy sets out how orders are routed and what is weighed besides price, and it is published rather than available on request.

You can always get your money out

A withdrawal reserves the amount from your wallet the moment you request it, before anyone reviews it, and a declined request returns it immediately. Withdrawals are held only where compliance has an open document request, and the reason is visible in your portal rather than something you have to ask about.

Nothing is hidden behind a request

Every legal document is downloadable from this site without an account. Fees, the countries we do not serve and the risks of margin trading are stated where you can find them, not where you will not.

A complaint goes on a register

Complaints are logged with a reference and answered within a defined period, and the register is one of the things a regulator inspects. If our answer does not satisfy you, the FSC accepts complaints about us directly.

If we fall short of any of it, the complaint route gives you a reference number and a written answer within a fixed period, and it does not end with us — the Financial Services Commission takes complaints about its licensees directly.
