GBP/USD pip value calculator
1 lot = 100,000 GBP. One pip is 0.0001. On one lot a single pip of GBP/USD is worth $10.00; on 0.10 lot it is $1.00. Enter your size and the tool does the rest — and shows the arithmetic, so you can check it.

- One pip is 0.0001 of price, and one lot is 100,000 GBP.
- 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10.00 per lot.
- $10.00 × 1.00 lots = $10.00.
- The price does not appear anywhere — that is why a GBP/USD pip is always $10.00 a lot.
Reference prices in the text are round teaching numbers; the calculator prefills our last stored reading, indicative only. Contract sizes follow the standard conventions printed above the calculator; your account’s own specification is what applies. Nothing here is a recommendation.
The sum for GBP/USD
Pip value = pip size × contract size × lots. For GBP/USD: 0.0001 × 100,000 × 1 = $10.00 per lot.
Because GBP/USD is quoted in US dollars, the price is not in the sum: a pip is worth the same at any level. That is why traders keep the number in their head — $10.00 a lot, $1.00 on 0.10.
What to do with it
Multiply your stop distance in pips by this number and you have the stop in dollars. A 30-pip stop on 0.50 lot of GBP/USD is 30 × $5.00 = $150.00. If that is more than you meant to risk, the size is wrong, not the stop. The position-size calculator turns this around and gives you the size from the risk.
Common questions
- Is a GBP/USD pip always $10.00 a lot?
- Yes, on a standard 100,000-unit lot and a USD account — the price does not enter the sum.
- What is a pip on GBP/USD?
- 0.0001 — the fourth decimal place of the quote. The 5th decimal the platform shows is a point, a tenth of a pip.
