EUR/USD margin calculator

1 lot = 100,000 EUR. One pip is 0.0001. At a price of 1.1, 0.10 lot of EUR/USD is $11,000 of exposure; at an assumed leverage of 100:1 the margin is $110.00. Your account's leverage on EUR/USD is set per account group — put your real figure in the leverage field, not the default.

Show the working +
  1. Position value = 100,000 EUR × 1.00 lots × 1.16150 = $116,150.00.
  2. Margin = $116,150.00 ÷ 100 = $1,161.50.
  3. That is what is set aside, not what is at risk. The whole $116,150.00 moves with the market.

Reference prices in the text are round teaching numbers; the calculator prefills our last stored reading, indicative only. Contract sizes follow the standard conventions printed above the calculator; your account’s own specification is what applies. Nothing here is a recommendation.

The sum for EUR/USD

Margin = lots × contract size × price ÷ leverage. For one lot of EUR/USD at 1.1 and 100:1: 1 × 100,000 × 1.1 ÷ 100 = $1,100.00. For 0.10 lot: $110.00.

The price is in this sum, so EUR/USD margin rises and falls with EUR/USD. The exposure — $11,000 on 0.10 lot — is what your profit and loss are calculated on; the margin is only what is reserved to hold it.

Margin is not the most you can lose

0.10 lot of EUR/USD loses $1.00 per pip against you regardless of the leverage used to open it. Leverage decides how much of your money is reserved, not how big the position is. Ultimo does not offer a negative-balance guarantee; size from the stop, not from the margin.

Common questions

What is the margin for 0.01 lot of EUR/USD?
At 1.1 and an assumed 100:1, $11.00. Your account's actual leverage on EUR/USD decides the real figure.
Where do I find my real leverage?
In MetaTrader 5, right-click the symbol → Specification; and in your account terms. The calculator's dropdown is a starting point, not a statement about your account.
