XAU/USD margin calculator

1 lot = 100 troy ounces. A 0.01 move is worth $1 per lot. At a price of 3,000, 0.10 lot of gold is $30,000 of exposure; at an assumed leverage of 100:1 the margin is $300.00. Your account's leverage on gold is set per account group — put your real figure in the leverage field, not the default.

$4,429.06

to hold 1.00 lot at 100:1

Show the working +
  1. Position value = 100 XAU × 1.00 lots × 4,429.06 = $442,905.53.
  2. Margin = $442,905.53 ÷ 100 = $4,429.06.
  3. That is what is set aside, not what is at risk. The whole $442,905.53 moves with the market.

Reference prices in the text are round teaching numbers; the calculator prefills our last stored reading, indicative only. Contract sizes follow the standard conventions printed above the calculator; your account’s own specification is what applies. Nothing here is a recommendation.

The sum for XAU/USD

Margin = lots × contract size × price ÷ leverage. For one lot of gold at 3,000 and 100:1: 1 × 100 × 3,000 ÷ 100 = $3,000.00. For 0.10 lot: $300.00.

The price is in this sum, so gold margin rises and falls with gold. The exposure — $30,000 on 0.10 lot — is what your profit and loss are calculated on; the margin is only what is reserved to hold it.

Margin is not the most you can lose

Ten ounces (0.10 lot) lose $100 for every $10 gold falls, whether the margin was $300 or $1,500. Leverage decides how much of your money is set aside, not how many ounces you hold. Ultimo does not offer a negative-balance guarantee; size from the stop, not from the margin.

Common questions

What is the margin for 0.01 lot of gold?
At 3,000 and an assumed 100:1, $30.00. Your account's actual leverage on gold decides the real figure.
Where do I find my real leverage?
In MetaTrader 5, right-click the symbol → Specification; and in your account terms. The calculator's dropdown is a starting point, not a statement about your account.
